Want a Photo of Your Swimmer?

Photos of swimmers are now posted at the Kodak Photo Gallery. Stacie S. has kindly taken and uploaded all the photos she has taken at Wahoos swim meets. Thank you, Stacie!

Instructions for Viewing Kodak Gallery Photos

You will need to click on the phrase "CLICK HERE" below to view the photos. Once in the Kodak Gallery, you will need to join the Kodak Gallery by entering your e-mail address and choosing a password. If you see a photo or photos that you want, you can purchase for $0.10 per photo OR you can e-mail the photo(s) to yourself OR share the photo on Facebook. If you choose to share a photo on Facebook, please only share photos of your own children. Some Wahoos parents have requested that their children's photos not be shared with the public or the media.

Swim Team 2010 Is Nearly Here!

I had planned to update the Wahoos website during the school year. You know...write about all the swim meets our swimmers swam in the off season, but... Life and work and my family got in the way. But, I'm back!

The Wahoo Swim Team is gearing up for another fun season. Wahoos will continue to compete in Division 2 of the CMSL with some familiar teams.

Volunteers -- Many of the same volunteers will be helping Coach Jill again this year, but we are always looking for new faces to join our swim team committee.  We are looking for a person or group that will help organize social events for our swimmers.  If you want more information please call Mary Pat Jordan at

Registration -- Registration will take place on Sunday May 16 from 12:00-2:00pm and Friday May 21, 2010 from 4:00-6:00pm.

New Team Swim Suit -- Since we have a new team suit this year, Cy’s Swimwear will be available on both registration dates -- May 16 from 12-2 p.m. and May 21 from 4-6 p.m.

My goal is to photograph every Wahoos swimmer by the end of the season -- I may not achieve this goal, but I would like to try! If you see me at the pool with my camera, or if you see Rita Wolfe, mom of a Boys 9-10 swimmer, or Stacie Stolba, mom of a Girls 6 and under swimmer, also with their cameras, stop and ask us to take a photo of your child/children. Some children may be in multiple photographs, for instance group photos. I will try to get photographs of kids...even if they try and escape!

I have chosen not to label photograph for privacy and accuracy reasons. I would hate to mispell a swimmer's name, so will not list any names.

Blue v. White: Who Won?

The swim meet season officially began on Saturday morning with Time Trials. Swimmers, their parents, and younger siblings trickled in to the pool from 7 a.m. onwards. New swimmers seemed unsure of what would happen next while returning swimmers chatted with team mates.

In years past the team photo has been a long drawn out ordeal. This year the photographer quickly had swimmers assemble in height order. Younger swimmers were led along the edge of the pool where they sat with feet dangling in the water. Older swimmers took their places in the rows behind their younger teammates. At the last minute, the photographer realized that the coaches weren't in the photo!

Some parents opted for individual photos. Classic Photographers were accommodating when parents wanted a group shot of their children.

All too soon it was time for the application of sunscreen, the writing of the events on the hand with a Sharpie, and a quick warmup in the pool for all swimmers. Coach Jill made sure each swimmer was able to do a few starts off the blocks. New, younger swimmers opted to jump off the side of the pool rather than use the blocks.

Laura Byrd expertly managed the "handing out of the event cards to swimmers" in an orderly fashion. Laura -- in her yellow vest -- can be relied upon to make sure that each swimmer gets an event card. Parents of younger swimmers are asked to make sure that their swimmers go to Laura Byrd to get cards. Younger swimmers often loose track of time a they play with teammates.

Early on in the meet it was a possible win for one of the teams, but the other team made a run for the win. According to Rick Springer the score was a tie in the matchup of Blue v. White. A tie has never happened in the history of the West Howard Swim Team per Rick! Way to go Blue AND White!

Volunteers Needed for Time Trials!

**REMINDER! Swim Team Time Trials this Saturday, June 13.

Pictures at 7:30 a.m. followed by individual pictures and warm-ups. Meet should start at 9 a.m.

CALLING ALL PARENTS! We will need all available hands this Saturday to help. If you are new this is the time to try a position and ask questions don't be shy. We can not have a successful season without volunteers! Be involved!

Coaching Staff for Summer, Time Trials, and Apparel

The West Howard Swim Team staff is set for summer 2009.

Joining Coach Jill on the pool deck -- returning Assistant Coach Amy and new Assistant Coach Alex. Two other assistant coaches will join the coaching staff once school lets out for summer: returning Assistant Coach Matt and new Assistant Coach Michelle.

Please welcome the new and returning coaches to the West Howard Swim Team!
